1.2 Using TinkerCAD

Tools & Templates

1.2.1 Using templates

Templates have been created to allow you to save time in creating models of your facility. There are seven templates for you to choose from; each being a model of a different industry facility. You can begin your modelling process with one of these templates and modify the model to suit your applications. The following steps will guide you in copying these models onto your TinkerCAD account.

  1. Navigate to the Tools & Templates page on the website.

  2. Scroll down to the TinkerCAD section and select ‘Templates’.

  3. Select the template that suits your industry/application. Once you click on the image, a TinkerCAD link will be available for you to open the Design Description page.

  4. Click on ‘Copy and Tinker’. This will open the design on the workplane and save it on to your dashboard.

  5. You will now have a copy of the template model and be able to modify it.

1.2.2 Using tools

Tools are characterized as pre-made TinkerCAD shapes which you can use and save on to your library of shapes under Shapes Collection. These shapes are models of commonly used equipment in manufacturing and chemical facilities. These shapes will allow you to save time when creating your floor plan models and are dimensionally adjustable for your own applications. Once the shape is added to your Shapes Collection, you can access it when working on any design in the future. The following steps will guide you in adding these shapes into your Shapes Collection.

  1. Navigate to the Tools & Templates page on the website.

  2. Scroll down to the TinkerCAD section and select ‘Tools’.

  3. Select the equipment you would like to use by clicking on the image. A TinkerCAD link will be available for you to open the Design Description page.

  4. Click on ‘Copy and Tinker’. This will open the design on the workplane.

  5. On the workplane, highlight the model by clicking on it.

  6. Navigate to the drop-down menu on the Shapes Panel and select ‘Shapes Collection’ (Bottom of the drop-down menu).

  7. Click ‘Create Shape’. The Create Shape page should appear. Ensure that the model you highlighted appears on the white surface. If not, go back to make sure the model is highlighted.

  8. Enter a ‘Name’ for the shape and click ‘Save Shape’

  9. The shape should now appear on the Shapes Panel under Shapes Collection
